Modular Units
system:
a group of interacting, interrelated, or interdependent elements forming
a complex whole
The OctopusTM, the PodTM,
and the ShelfCubeTM Offices are modular
units which provide flexibility to adjust the workplace to the demands
of the work and to the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the people
entrusted with that work.
-
Units must be able to incorporate the various devices such as computers,
video, drafting mechanics, electrical supplies, lighting, recording and
playback, controls for remote devices, etc.--all of the equipment required
to produce complete work organized in a way that allows integrated use
and work flow.
-
Units must be modular so that a unique design for each user can be built
our of mass producible pieces.
-
Units must be a station; a place that the user can work with, relate to,
own. It is conceived that the units will move with the user when
she or he moves; that they will be a total piece of furniture, built to
last, and capable of technical update over the years. The focus is
on the work process--and experience of it--not on technical aspects of
the equipment or tools.
-
Units must have ease of mobility and ability to be "reconfigured" as the
work, technical options, and the habits of the user change.
-
Units must be able to be part of creating a variety of architectural environments
and must work as an integral part of the wall systems.
-
Units must shield the human user from radiation and electronic "smog" produced
by the built-in equipment.
Several different series of modular units, which coordinate with each other
in terms of color and texture, and which have complementary configurations
are included in our environments.
