Workstations designed for the Information worker are another product. Work stations currently are rarely designed to support both work at a computer and the use of other sources of information, such as printed material. The goal of the Taylor workstation design is to produce a work station which systematically removes the blocks to the creative process, and the difficulty of moving between blocks of information found from different sources and different locations. |
In our past explorations the tradition was to discover something and
then formulate it into answers and solutions that could be widely transferred.
But now we are on a journey of mutual and simultaneous explorations. There
will be no more patrons, waiting or our return, just more and more explorers
venturing our on their own.
Margaret Wheatley, 1992 In nature, there is variety, but traditional environments eliminate that variety and strive for uniformity. In MG Taylor environments, there is variety and balance in all of the elements--in light, in sound, in materials, in the way users have to move around. Environments that inspire creativity accommodate the human need for variety--for safety and for adventure--in alternate spaces of prospect and refuge. |

This environment has been the scene of much breakthrough thinking,
from how a military installation sees itself and its value to the community
and the nation, to settlement of labor disputes, to development of community
action plans. It can support more than 100 participants in DesignShopTM
events or shorter design sessions. Rapid reconfiguration of the environment
allows it to serve large and small groups simultaneously, and can provide
quiet places for individual knowledge workers.
This management center facility received an award from the Air Force for outstanding architectural design. |
