The Future

We are now testing new environments which focus less on large group facilitation and more on individual work areas and small team facilities. These will meet the growing need for fulfilling the vision developed in DesignShopTM events. These environments are often staffed with a group of skilled knowledge workers trained in MG Taylor methods and optimum use of the environment. They dispaly the project's progress, gather and synthesize knowledge valuable to project leaders, and build new ways of working which can transform the organization. The users are in controlof their environments and learn to use them to support their own creativity and productivity.

To facilitate maximum flexibility as well as privacy, three new types of work stations were installed. All are of high quality, durable wood, creating a sense of warmth and "human-ness"--living space.

  • The Cube Office is a custom designed space defined by storage cubes, which can be easily reconfigured to suit changing needs.
  • The Pod includes seven modular units which can be configured as one large, individual space, or as several smaller ones.
  • Individual work units provide storage space, electronic hook-ups, and ergonomic comfort in minimal space.

Modular units provide the flexibility to address the workplace, the demands of the work, and the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the people entrusted with that work.
  •  Units must be able to incorporate the various devices such as computers., video, drafting mechanics, electrical supplies, lighting, recording and playback, controls for remote devices--all of the equipment required to produce complete work organized in a way that allows integrated use and work flow.
  • Units must be modular so that a unique design for each user can be built our of mass producible units.
  • Units must be a station; a place that the user can work with, relate to, "own."  It is conceived that the units will move with the user when she of he moves; that they will be a total piece of furniture, built to last a "work time" and capable of technical update over the years.  The focus is on the work process--and experience of it--not on technical aspects of the equipment or tools.
  • Units must have ease of mobility and ability to be 'reconfigured" as the work. technical options, and the habits of the user change.  Units must be able to be part of creating a variety of architectural environments and must work as an integral part of the wall systems.
  •
  • Units must shield the human user from radiation and electronic "smog" produced by the built-in equipment.
