In the modern workplace, we tend to discount the importance of the physical environment. Its effect on productivity is seldom noted, except when basic standards such as lighting or temperature control are inadequate or fail. Creating the work environment as a tool for human productivity and as an expression of the individual's worth is the act of building the enterprise's body.
MG Taylor designs exhibit our careful attention to the environment as an integrated system specifically geared to allow an optimum flow of information that supports the collaborative work process. The physical environment design supports effective organization and display of, and access to information and tools. Adaptability is the key to the ease with which the physical environment can be modified to accommodate the work processes. These elements together promote good health and optimum daily management. The "feel" of the place--the pattern language--rich sensory appeal, and strong use of natural components and live plants is conducive to better health and creativity, as are freedom from clutter and disorder.
Athenaeum International has been instrumental in designing and building important client environments, all of which are still viable today. All were based on the ideas of integration of environment, process and tools. It was obvious that the all purpose workstation was no longer adequate in a rapidly changing workplace. People needed greater flexibility, variety, the ability to visualize important concepts, and frequent healthy movement. We sought to develop, through successive iterations of work with our clients, flexible, adaptable, playful, efficient, creative, beautiful workplaces.
