From
1994 to 1996, the Rapid Deployment Solution (RDSTM)
system brought the MG Taylor DesignShop process to more than 15 cities
nationwide, and to Toronto, Canada. Current RDS capability extends
to Europe. RDS deployments bring all of the elements of the environment
of the MG Taylor Management Centers, including staff drawn from cities
throughout the world. Our environments are designed to be flexible and
mobile, which includes the ability to pack up all of the elements--walls,
work stations, technology--and take them to where our clients need them.
|
RDS
environments are designed with as much careful attention to detail as are
permanent Management Centers. Plants, toys, books--all of the items that
complement our furniture to make a truly knowledge rich atmosphere--are
in abundance where they are needed. The site might be a tennis court,
a hotel ballroom, a gymnasium, or an airplane hanger. The magic is
in how careful design and implementation by a knowledgeable staff and design
team can transform even the strangest of spaces into an energetic, colorful,
creative workplace. |
Why
not create areas that are adaptable to the tasks on a one-second, one-minute,
one-hour level of adjustment? Our environments have multiple ways
they can be set up on all of those scales of time. The architecture
changes to support the work. The fun is that it contains a certain magic
in what's going on. You think of something you need, and all of a
sudden, you find the environment has changed to fit the process. |
The
total variety of the environment must be requisite with the variety of
human requirements in performing learning, design and management tasks
in the modern workplace. If the users require a 50 foot long wall
to layout a complex process that 40 people can see and comment on in real
time, the Center must provide that. If the users require many intimate
workspaces to think through knowledge-intensive, detailed problems, the
Center must provide that. If the users require different computing
and communicating tools, at different points in their work, the Center
must provide that. If the users require interaction through various
electronic means, with co-designers at another site, the Center must provide
that. If multiple users, working on different tasks, require these
different spaces and tools at different times and for different periods
of time, the Center must provide that.

The RDS environment was designed to be available to respond rapidly
to emergency situations in which communities need the collaborative efforts
of a wide variety of people. The work of our RDS clients has varied widely
from considerations of strategic plans for nuclear waste disposal to aircraft
maintenance to reengineering the processes of retail firms in cosmetics
and fast food. All have had one things in common--the need for newer, more
creative approaches to their work. This creative ability thrives
in our environments.
